Please ensure you are wearing clean gloves before removing your pre-moistened sterile
gauze swab from its packet, use one swab per area and wipe along the required areas
required; ensuring that both sides of every gauze swabs has been used, before placing
within the zip lock bags provided. These can be tested as 1 composite sample, and
if required this must be noted correctly on the laboratory salmonella form.
Along with your environmental gauze swabs you are also required to take a sample of 25g
of rodent faeces, if there is no faeces available please take the additional gauze
swab provided and wipe along the areas around the bait boxes per house, following
the above protocol.
What it a previous flock has tested positive for Salmonella Enteritidis or Salmonella
Typhimurium?
If a previous house has received a positive result for Salmonella Enteritidis or
Typhimurium, please ensure that when ordering your salmonella testing kits the office
has been informed as more environmental gauze swabs are required to be taken.
You must take 5 gauze swabs from each required area to be tested per area not as
a composite sample, as well as 50g of rodent faeces if available from surfaces in
house, or service area in none available in house. If they is no rodent faeces available,
please take the additional gauze swab provided and wipe along the areas around the
bait boxes per house.
