Sampling Techniques & Kits
The new regulations for Salmonella testing are now in place, and all testing should reflect this. From January 2008 the National Control Plan (NCP) for Salmonella in laying flocks has been implemented throughout the

farms now,

from laying farms under the imminent new Lion Code samples,

The DEFRA
Zoonosis regulation samples which become statutory in January 2008.
Clients have asked
us to provide a kit that is at least equal to what will be in the
new revision of the Lion Code. We have decided in consultation with
Sci-Tech Laboratories and St David’s veterinary surgeons, that a
testing kit that goes over and above what may be required by
legislation is needed. This will give the flock farmer the best
possible chance to ascertain the Salmonella status of their sheds.
The kit will be sent out on a shed by shed basis as required. It
will include sampling materials for all the sample types we feel
will be of use. If conscientiously taken, then whilst by no means
foolproof, we aim to give the best possible picture as to Salmonella
status. This test should ideally also be accompanied by an audit of
your premises in order to advise you of any actions that we feel may
be needed or advantageous. A report can then be produced as to the
way forward, in conjunction with the microbiological results, in
order to achieve the best possible Salmonella status for your sheds.
Should you be interested in this kit please fill
in & submit the form below.
This kit includes all sampling equipment,
instructions and a pre paid return label.
The time is now upon us in the period known as ‘peacetime’ for farmers to take meaningful, properly taken samples, Make no mistake, many more instances of Salmonella in general will occur when the new testing regulations become mandatory due to long running environmental contamination that has not previously been discovered. So action now whilst we are still able to act is vital.
